Evening Prayer

Opening

(John 8:12)
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.
     Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Hymn of Light

Christ Be Our Light- Breen and Patrick Sipes

Thanksgiving for Light

(Genesis 1:3-4)
God said, “Let there be light”;
and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good.

(Job 12:22)
God uncovers the deeps out of darkness,
and brings deep darkness to light.

(Psalm 27:1)
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

(Isaiah 9:2)
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.

(Revelation 22:5)
In the end, there will be no more night; we will need no light of lamp or sun,
for the Lord God will be our light and will reign forever and ever.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in    heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
